Five most wanted naxals surrendered before Maharashtras Gadchiroli Police on Wednesday. The surrendered naxals include two platoon commanders who are married and another couple of the senior cadre rank.
Identified as Sainu alias Mirgu Velda, 35, was the platoon A Commander of the dreaded Company 4 of CPIM. He joined the naxals in 2001 in Kasansure area’s Company 3.
Sainu was promoted to platoon commander in 2008 and has participated in 63 encounters with security forces, named in 11 blasts and IED attacks, wanted in17 murders, 4 carnage incidents and 3 kidnappings till date. The government had declared a reward of Rs 12 lakh on Sainu.
Sainu’s wife Rupi alias Jhuri Narote, 36 who also surrendered with him joined the naxals in 2003 in the Kasansur Salam and was promoted as C Platoon Commander of Company 4. She was involved in 42 police encounters, wanted for eight murders, seven blast attacks, two carnage incidents and has a reward of Rs six lakh declared on her by the government.
THE SECOND COUPLE
The second couple who surrendered on Wednesday is Arjun Poya(25) and his wife Chaya alias Raju Kulpeti (23). Poya joined naxals in 2011 and since 2014 he was in-charge of Press team in the Tipagad Dalam. He participated in 5 police encounters, is involved in a murder and a carnage incident. Poya has a reward of Rs 2 lakh declared on him by the government.
His wife Chaya had also joined the Bhamragad Dalam in 2011 and till 2015 she was with the South division CNM team. She had been involved in 5 police encounters, wanted for three murders and eight carnage incidents. A reward of Rs 2 lakh was declared on her by the government.
The fifth naxal who surrendered is 22-year-old Binu alias Ramnath alias Bijavu Kochavi. His surrender could be very helpful to the anti-naxal operations in the district as he was bodyguard of the most wanted Divisional Commander Joganna who has been the mastermind of majority attacks against security forces in the district.
He participated in six encounters, wanted for two murders and seven carnage incidents and has a reward of Rs 2 lakh declared on him.
THE SURRENDER POLICY
The Gadchiroli Police as per the surrender policy by the state government would provide the five naxal a clean slate and will also provide them with land, occupation and the reward amount to help them lead their life in the mainstream.
Vasectomy reopening surgeries will also be conducted on the surrendered naxals by specialised government doctors so that the surrendered naxals could start their family and lead a normal life.
In the last one year, 27 naxals have surrendered in Gadchiroli which includes some top cadres like divisional committee member, area committee members and several Dalam leaders.
