Special Police Officer Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh was killed and his wife grievously injured when militants barged into their house in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag Thursday evening and opened fire.
The couple was rushed to hospital at Bijbehara where Sheikh was declared “brought dead” and his wife Fahmeeda was referred to Srinagar. “The woman is grievously injured. We hope she survives,” a doctor said.
Following the shootout, security forces reached Kathsoo village and a cordon was laid to nab the attackers.
In Czaancer village of Kulgam district, madrasa teacher Sayar Ahmad Wani was shot at by militants while he was returning home from a mosque.“He was shot multiple times in the legs. He was rushed to Kulgam district hospital and then to Srinagar for specialised treatment,” a police official said. His condition was said to be stable.
